Radon in snow or soil helps in uranium exploration

Soil and snow radon anomaly over Faraday Mine, Bancroft, Ontario

The anomaly is shifted downhill, as is normal in geochemical soil surveys.
Going downhill from the ore (pegmatite) the first response is shown by radon in snow.
The next response is shown by radium in the A and B horizons, and by uranium in the B horizon.
The response of uranium in the A horizon is further downhill.
At the bottom of the hill in a swampy area at the spring all indicators are high. High radon values in snow here are due to high radium values in the underlying soil.
Our instruments have the advantage of instant results at the sample site, with the possibility of immediate follow-up and checking.
Our instruments also determine thoron, and the Rn/Tn ratio is important in recognising false anomalies due to soil permeability.

We measure: radon - radium - thoron - radon daughters - alpha radiation.
The Lucas cell is recognized as the most sensitive and reliable method for these elements.
